Welcome to Tatonkaflatsbison Tatonka Flats Bison Hunts

– an alternative to your typical Ranch Hunt and a Free Range Wilderness Hunt

About Us

TATONKA FLATS bison preserve is located in northern Alberta, about an 1 ½ hour drive north of Edmonton, Alberta. Our bison share the preserve with other wild animals that are free ranging and found in this part of Alberta.

The wilderness is a mostly treed, rolling landscape with grassy meadows and beaver ponds, as well as spruce muskegs. There are a number of cut lines and trails allowing us good access to hunt on foot or with the use of an ATV.

The hunts are fair chase, mostly spot and stalk, or by the use of our heated tower blinds. During the winter months, tracking the bison in the snow, is a challenging, but very rewarding way to hunt.

Bison Hunts

Hunts are available from September to late February. Here in northern Alberta, you can expect frost at nights in September, snow by the beginning of November and we can get very cold temperatures by January.

Accommodations

Accommodations during the hunt are provided in our rustic hunting cabin, located right in the preserve. The cabin is off grid, but has power by means of solar panels and a generator. WE use wood for heating and the cabin will be cozy warm even at the coldest nights.
